Installing Nutan
System requirements, downloading, and installing the Nutan desktop app on macOS.
System Requirements
Before installing, make sure your Mac meets these requirements:
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating system | macOS 12 (Monterey) or later |
| Processor | A modern Mac from the last 4 years. Newer hardware runs on-device AI faster. |
| RAM | 8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended |
| Disk space | 2 GB for the app and on-device AI models |
| Internet | Required for initial sign-in, CRM sync, and cloud sync. Not required for meeting capture or transcription. |
Downloading Nutan
Download Nutan from the link in your invite email.
Nutan is in private beta — invite only. If you haven't received an invite, request one at nutan.ai/beta and we'll reach out when a seat opens.
Installing
- Open the downloaded installer.
- Drag the Nutan icon into your Applications folder.
- Eject the installer.
- Launch Nutan from your Applications folder or by searching in Spotlight (Cmd + Space, type "Nutan").
First Launch — Security Prompt
On first launch, macOS may show a warning because Nutan was downloaded from the internet. Click Open to proceed. This is standard macOS behavior for apps distributed outside the App Store.
Granting Permissions
Nutan needs a few system permissions to work properly. You'll be prompted to grant these on first use:
Accessibility Permission
Required for capturing system audio during meetings. When prompted:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
- Toggle Nutan on.
- You may need to unlock the settings with your Mac password.
Without this permission, Nutan cannot capture meeting audio.
Microphone Permission (Optional)
If you use the push-to-talk feature to record voice notes, Nutan will request microphone access. This is separate from meeting capture, which uses system audio.
Data Storage
Nutan stores all data locally on your Mac. Your database is protected with industry-standard strong encryption, and the encryption key is stored in your operating system's secure keychain — never on disk.
Updating Nutan
Nutan checks for updates automatically. When an update is available, you'll see a notification inside the app. Updates are downloaded in the background and applied on next launch.
Uninstalling
To remove Nutan:
- Quit the app.
- Drag Nutan from Applications to the Trash.
- In the app, choose Settings → Privacy → Delete all local data before uninstalling to wipe all stored data and secure credentials.
